Just Another Day

My better half celebrated a birthday yesterday!  Although he says it's just another day the kids loved to make a special day of it! They were a bit disappointed in the rain later in the day that squashed their plans of a bonfire but we adapted!  As you can see the cake was a bit of a fail as far as presentation but didn't lack on taste!

Morning walk

We've gotten in the habit of taking walks on quiet Sunday mornings.  Derek and I are early risers so he and I either hit the nearby trail or take a stroll around town. With all the rain last night I was curious what the river was looking like so we opted to stay in town this morning.

The river is definitely up so we'll have to keep an eye on it. Derek lives throwing rocks in so of course we had to stop and throw a few!

We also stopped by the garden to snap a few pics. We did some weeding and building of our own tomato cages yesterday. So far we've harvested broccoli and lettuce!

Seeing Green

This weekend we did a little celebrating. ..ok a lot of celebrating!  It was Irish fest in Lawler so we made plans for a family weekend of fun! It started Friday night with a hot and sweaty 5k. I'm more of a morning runner but this one was ok too finishing in 22:30 and taking first in my age group. We finished the day with pizza and fireworks!

Saturday morning we were up and at 'em pretty early to get our float finalized and ready for judging.  We did an Irish pub theme and in remembrance of those family members no longer with us.  We had family tshirts made too! We won a trophy for best family walking unit! Yeah! The kids enjoyed the bouncy houses before heading back to my parents for some food and fun!  We celebrated my grandmother's 86 birthday as well!  She's a great lady!

Our festivities carried well into the night with lots of laughter and memories! I'm so grateful to have such great family! We are already looking forward to next year's event!

CWS Omaha

Late last week we packed up and headed west, to Omaha for our annual trip to visit my aunt and uncle.  This year we had a plan.....taking in the College World Series!  We arrived in town on Thursday evening and the kids (and dog) did really well with the ride out there.  It was time for some grilling and some fun!  The neighbors had a trampoline so the kids had a blast with jumping around in it!

On Friday we headed down to TD Ameritrade Park for some family fun.  We got a chance to watch some teams with batting practice, while the kids got to do some hitting of their own and make posters for the games.  After that, we were starving, so it was off to Spaghetti Works for lunch.  YUM!

Friday afternoon we lounged in the pool and had a great time.  That night we grilled some supper and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Saturday was game day!  Terry, Randy and Nolan headed to the park for some tailgating prior to the game while Derek and us girls explored the new outlet mall Nebraska Crossing.  I would have to recommend this outlet as it was fantastic!  We got most of our school shopping done already.  With such great deals on shoes and backpacks we couldn't go wrong!

We spent the rest of the day going to the pool again, playing on the playground and just enjoying the weather and visiting.  We packed up on Sunday morning to head home. It's amazing how those days go by so fast!  We had another great visit and are already planning for next year!  It's always great to spend time with family!

Sometimes I struggle with writing my blog posts...

A Whirlwind

Summer is in full swing around here. School got out a week ago and it's been busy busy busy since then! We had 6 ball games in 5 days and by that last day all of us were exhausted!  Thank goodness for the weekend to rest and recover! This week is a bit more relaxed...Stay tuned as we're going on a road trip later this week!
