Race day

Yesterday was race day up on Minneapolis.  My sister in law and I were on the road bright and early at 5am.

Up until a couple weeks ago I was training for the half. I was up to 12 miles a week but just was not feeling right. So I decided to change from the half to the 10k.  The longest race I've ran prior to yesterday was an 8k so I thought the 10k would be a good stepping stone.

I'm glad I did change.  The race went well with 8000 overall runners and about 1800 running the 10k. I had a goal of 50 minutes and finished with 51:14. 24th overall so I'm pleased with that and motivated to do a half yet this year!

Spring Program ( Part 2)

This past week Eryn had her spring program at school.  She's getting to be such a little lady isn't she?

Easter Weekend

We had a busy weekend full of birthday celebrations as well as Easter.  We had good times with family,  Easter egg hunts and playing games.

I spent Friday and most of Saturday with my sister in laws catching up. We took a quick trip to Des Moines for shopping,  pedicures and some much needed girl time.

Here we are gearing up for another busy week!  Stay tuned for Eryn's spring program, info on my upcoming race and online bible study information!  Have a great week everyone!

Spring is here!

We enjoyed some great spring weather this weekend.  It was a great time to get some things done outside.  We made and packaged brats and Grandpa Langreck ' s sausage, got seeds started for the garden, including lettuce, kohlrabi, and peas. Randy worked on boiling sap to make maple syrup and the kids enjoyed getting muddy and dirty, playing outside until dark. I love that it's light later in the day!

We raked the front yard, hoping for a little rain to green up the grass. I can see my tulips and daffodils just barely poking out of the ground. We put the basketball hoop out for the kids that Santa brought them at Christmas. Yep spring is here!

I enjoyed a quick visit with a good friend,  taking our time doing a little shopping and catching up. I also started doing an online bible study today,  another item on my bucket list for 2014. More on that to come!

Today the boy's room got some updates and we put the bunk beds together.  They are having a blast with them and I am hopeful that no one falls or gets hurt!

Southern Sweet Tea

I've been a fan of Sweet Tea since the summer of 2010 when I was pregnant with Derek.  In an effort to get away from pop, put yet still have a little caffenine, this is just the ticket.  McDonald's makes a pretty mean sweet tea, but at $1 a cup, all be it a BIG cup, it adds up.  So I found my own recipe and love it!  I thought I would share....it's getting to be summer, sometime, right?

Boil 2 quarts of water. When it begins to boil, add 3 family size Lipton tea bags and 1-1 1/2 cups of sugar, place the lid on the pot and let seep for one hour. I only use one cup of sugar and it tastes pretty good.  After an hour add 2 quarts of cold water and refridgerate.  YUM!  Bring on summer!
